Take the Lead - Leash Train Your Dog

Walking with you
The key to training your dog for leash walks is to take the lead.

A short leash will help you train your dog to walk with you, not in front of you. A 3 foot leash is recommended for training, but also should be used for daily dog walks.

TIP #1: to train your dog not to pull

  1. Stop walking when your dog pulls the leash, i.e. it is taunt
  2. Start walking again once the leash is loose
TIP #2: if the above technique does not work, try turning around towards home every time your dog begins pulling. As soon as your dog walks properly (in seconds) turn around again 180 degrees and begin the walk again. Repeat until necessary.
